Tanjung
Puting is announced as a national
park on October 14, 1982 by Ministry
of Forestry, covering an area about
300,040 hectares. It is a conservation
area to protect rare animals such
as; Orangutan (pongo pygmaeus),
proboscis monkey (nasalis larvatus),
hornbill, etc. The area is also
a kind of ecosystem of lowland tropical
rainforest, swamp and mangrove forest.
Banjarmasin town is river oriented,
houses on stilts lined the waterways
crisscross the capital. Cruising
the canal by motorized boat, especially
on the morning or afternoon hours,
shows the town from the inside where
people bathing, doing laundry, buying
fruit, vegetable and fish from woman
vendors in a tiny canoes.
The
floating market is one of main tourism
objects in this town. The market
is available from 05:00 –
08:00 in the morning. At the location
we can enjoy tradition of Banjarese
people trading vegetables, fruit,
drinks, cakes, and many kinds of
other daily needs. Buyers can buy
these commodities on board of their
boats or from small port attached
to the back of people house.

ITINERARY
Day
01 : ARRIVAL IN PANGKALAN BUN-KUMAI-TANJUNG
PUTING PARK
Meet at Pangkalan Bun airport, then
transfer to Kumai district for boating
to Tanjung Puting National Park. Transfer
Pangkalan Bun and Kumai, then continue
cruise the Sekonyer river to Tanjung
Puting National Park. The boat is
a traditional Klotok wooden river
boat about 6m by 2m with a roof which
forms the upper deck where you can
view the rain forest as it glides
by. The guide's team includes the
boatman, a cook and expert guide.
In the peaceful afternoon we will
slowly explore the quite river by
the klotok while observe the monkeys
along the riverside. Overnight and
dining on the boat, with facilities;
thin mattress, pillow, fine meals,
bottled "mineral" water,
mosquito net, kitchen, simple toilet
available on boat besides the familiar
- helpful guides and boatmen . (l,d)
Day 02 : PONDOK TANGGUY-CAMP
LEAKEY-TANJUNG HARAPAN
After breakfast board the klotok to
travel up river for about 2 hours
boating and then up a side creek to
Camp Leakey where the older orangutans
are reintroduced into the rain forest.
En route stop at Pondok Tanguy, the
rehabilitation center for the new
ex-captive orangutans. At Camp Leakey
you will have opportunity to trek
into the rain forest with your expert
guide and the forestry rangers to
appreciate the flora as well as perhaps
sighting wild orangutans, gibbons,
macaques, and birds. Lunch provided
on boat. Afternoon visit the feeding
station to see rehabilitate orangutans
are given additional foods. We will
then sail back down the river to overnight
on the boat.(b,l,d)
Day 03 : KUMAI-PANGKALAN BUN-BANJARMASIN
Return to Kumai district by boat,
transfer to Pangkalan Bun airport
for flight to Banjarmasin. Overnight
at hotel (b,l)
Day 04 : FLOATING MARKET-DEPARTURE
Early morning cruising to the floating
market to see people trading from
boat to boat, then joining the canal
tour on the way back to the hotel,
free program till the departure time.
